This body of work marks a recent shift in my practice towards plant-based dye processes and textile-based making. Developed through self-directed study and initial training in Hikizome, these experiments explore colour as a material, focusing on pigment behaviour, surface variation and the relationship between gesture and absorption.
Working primarily with natural dyes, the process involves repeated testing of dilution, timing and application, allowing colour to emerge through interaction with fabric rather than being fixed in advance. The resulting works emphasise gradation, irregularity and the subtle movement of pigment across the surface.
These studies form the starting point for ongoing research into Japanese dye techniques and colour systems, which I am developing through further technical training and material investigation.
